Long Hair DHI

Long Hair transplant technique that restores your confidence right after the procedure

9 MONTH

Long Hair FUE (Long Hair Transplant, No Shaving)

An advanced hair transplant technique that harvests hair roots together with long hair (about 1–5 cm in length) without shaving the back of the head.

On the day of the procedure, you can immediately see the hairstyle, the overall look and the new facial frame blending with your existing hair. The rest of your long hair can be let down to discreetly cover the tiny extraction wounds at the back of the head.

Care during the first 1–7 days: Extra care is needed when washing your hair and sleeping, so that the long hair doesn’t catch or get pulled and dislodge the roots.

Shock Loss phase: Even though it is a long hair transplant, the transplanted long hairs will gradually shed in weeks 3–4 after the procedure (following the natural hair cycle). The roots under the skin start producing new hair in months 3–4, with full density visible in months 8–12.

Graft Harvesting

A special punch, the Gramax punch, with a groove that protects the hair shaft, is used to extract the hair roots without cutting the hair shorter. The grafts are then extracted with the long hair still attached.

Implantation

A hair implantation tool (DHI Implanter) is loaded with the long-hair grafts, which are implanted directly into the scalp to prevent the long hairs from tangling or the roots from being damaged.

Suitable for

  • Those who want to see their new hairline and density right after the procedure
  • Women, or men with long hair, who don’t want to cut their hair or shave their head
  • Those who want minimal downtime and want to hide the transplant wounds discreetly

Not suitable for

  • Those who need a very large number of grafts in a single session (as it takes longer and is more complex)
  • Those with a limited budget (it costs more than Short Hair)

Long Hair FAQ

Q1. After a Long Hair transplant, will the long transplanted hair keep growing, or will it fall out first?

The transplanted long hair will stay in a nice shape for the first 2–4 weeks. After that, it enters the Shock Loss phase (temporary shedding), which is a natural process. The long hair falls out first, but the roots remain under the skin and start growing new permanent hair from month 3–4 onwards.

Q2. Is the long transplanted hair hard to care for? Will it tangle and pull out the roots?

A little extra care is needed during the first 7 days, especially when combing or sleeping. Do not rub your hair, and comb carefully so the comb doesn’t catch the roots that are not yet firmly anchored.

Q3. If my budget is limited, can I choose Long Hair only for the frontal hairline and have the back discreetly trimmed short (Non-shaven / Par-shaven) to reduce costs?

Yes. This is called the Hybrid FUE / Partial Shaven technique: the hair is trimmed short only in a spot hidden under the long hair at the back, and the hair is let down to cover it. The grafts are then implanted at the front with the long hair technique, saving more than a full Long Hair procedure.

Q4. Will the hair at the back look thinner after long hairs are harvested from there?

The doctor selects and extracts alternating follicular units spread out evenly, never too close together in the same spot, so when the hair at the back falls naturally, no one can tell that it is any thinner.

Q5. During temporary hair shedding (Shock Loss), will all of the hair fall out and look patchy?

About 70–80% of the transplanted hair gradually sheds during months 1–2, but not all at once, and the surrounding existing hair helps to cover it. From months 3–4, new hair begins to grow naturally.

Q6. How many days before or after a Long Hair transplant can I color, straighten or perm my hair?

If you want to dye or color your hair, we recommend doing it at least 3–5 days before the transplant. After the transplant, you should wait at least 6 months so the scalp and roots are fully strong before exposure to chemicals.

Q7. Do Long Hair transplants have the same graft survival as Short Hair transplants?

The Graft Survival Rate is very similar (about 90–95%) when performed by a highly experienced doctor using an Implanter Pen. However, Long Hair requires more careful aftercare in the first 1–2 weeks so that the long hairs don’t tangle or pull the roots out.
