Q1. What causes grey hair, and does it need treatment?
Grey hair is caused by a decrease in melanin pigment in the hair, which is related to age, genetics and the function of the pigment-producing cells. Age-related grey hair generally does not need treatment; if you want to change your look, you can choose grey coverage. However, if you go grey prematurely and rapidly, or have other abnormal symptoms, you should consult a doctor to assess the cause.
Q2. Does dyeing hair cause more grey hair?
Hair colouring does not stop the pigment-producing cells from working or directly cause grey hair. More visible grey hair after colouring may come from new hair growing naturally, or from the contrast between the coloured hair and the hair at the roots.

On average, MP hair colour lasts about 1–3 months, depending on hair condition, care and how often you wash your hair.
Q7. How often do I need to cover grey hair?
There is no fixed interval for everyone. Frequency depends on how fast your hair grows, the amount of grey hair and the colour difference at the roots. It should be considered together with your scalp condition to avoid colouring too often.
Q8. Does covering grey hair stop new grey hair from appearing?
No. Colouring changes the colour of existing hair, but it does not change how the hair follicles produce pigment, so new grey hair can still appear naturally.
Q9. After a hair transplant, when can I dye my hair or cover grey hair?
In general, MP Clinic recommends waiting at least 6 months after a hair transplant before colouring your hair, depending on your scalp condition and how well the grafts are growing. If the grafts are growing well and the scalp has fully recovered, the doctor may allow colouring sooner — in some cases, when coloured at MP Clinic, as early as 4 months after the transplant. If hair growth is not yet satisfactory, we may recommend waiting another 2–3 months to reduce the risk of scalp irritation and allow time to assess the transplant results properly.
